Characters Full Name: Rothwood Chambers
Age and Birth date: 237, August 18th
Student, Adult, or Teacher?: Adult
Blood: Muggle born, Half blood, Pure blood? Pure-blood
House: Hufflepuff
Year: Out of school
Family: Brother: Dorrmas Chambers. Deceased. Rothwood never got along with his brother. His brother was an Politician, while Rothwood was an explorer. Dorrmas died in an informal duel in his manor after a guest insulted his wife. Rothwood attended the funeral. Rothwood has never married, though he has had two fiancees, Natasha River, a Half-blood, when he was 30, and Serenity Williams, a Muggle, when he was 62. Both of them died before a couple of weeks before the wedding, so Rothwood swore off love, not wanting to 'endanger' someone else.
Character appearance: Rothwood has a lined face and a slightly thinning head of shoulder length silver hair. Rothwood's eyes are a dull brown, almost black. Despite his aged appearance, Rothwood is still fairly spry and can easily move about his shop. Rothwood wears a variety of shirts and pants, but one constant is a dusty, slightly stained traveling cloak. The cloak is always either around his shoulders or near at hand.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Rothwood is barely OWL level in most aspects of magic. The only areas where he can perform decently are Charms and Curses. However, he lacks the magical power to perform some of the more dangerous curses. An average 7th year, and possibly 6th year, could beat him in a duel. Despite his magical limitations, Rothwood is far from helpless. Rothwood has many aquantinces and contacts throughout Britain and a goodly portion of the world. Also, within his shop, Rothwood has set up many defenses using artifacts , charms, wards, and curses.
Sexual Orientation: Straight, though no longer active in any sense.
History: Rothwood was born in a small cottage in a settlement around 40 kms south of Hogwarts. He showed no signs of magic until his seventh birthday, when he levitated the family Krup onto the nearby countertop to stop it from licking his face. Rothwood attended Hogwarts during the 1770, just as Britain was fighting the New World Colonists, and many witches and wizards, seeking to escape from the "oppression" of the recently formed Ministry, were leaving to the New World. The Headmaster during Rothwood's schooling was Mayhorn Lampfree, one of the few candidates for the position who was not enlisted in Her Majesty's Army. Lampfree held the position until 1787, when he too decided to move to the Colonies. Rothwood studied hard, but just had no grasp for magic. Charms came almost naturally to him, but he had no talent in any of the other fields, save for Curses. He barely scraped by enough OWLs to not fail, and actually managed to get a decent NEWT score, due to some luck during his Care of Magical Creatures exam, and some lucky guesses on his Ancient Runes work. After Rothwood graduated, he began to travel. Rothwood traveled across the ocean to the New World, or America, as they insisted on being called. He explored the mountains and valleys, met and escaped from the natives, and made his way south. Rothwood traversed the globe, using his magic, a trusty owl, and a goodly supply of Portkeys, to stay ahead of any danger he found himself in. As he traveled, he met many people, and, while he in no way made many friends, he learned a lot about buisness and barering, and found several people who were willing to trade for various items. As the years passed, Rothwood slowly began to restrict his travels. Soon he was only traveling around Eurasia and Africa, and soon he dropped the African Continent all together. Eventually, around the early 1900's, Rothwood settled down in a shop in Diagon Alley to sell some of the trinkets he had found. His shop is not actually on the Alley, but is hidden in another alleyway behind Eeylops Owl Emporium, an alley that Rothwood calls Parsion Alley. Rothwood used his many contacts to gain a few varied licences that allow him to sell almost anything he wants to anyone he wants. He is a regular supplier of the Ministry of Magic, and in fact, he helped them to find a few of the Time-Turners and the Bell Jar that lay in the Department of Mysteries. He also caters to the Darker element of society, buying some of their Dark Objects if he finds them interesting, and selling them certain objects if he is willing to part with them.
Personality: Rothwood is a shrewd buisnessman and is skilled at telling when someone is lying to him, and discovering what exatly they are lying about. He does tend to have a short temper, but he generally keeps his wits about him and stays to the shadows. Rothwood does standup for him self, and refuses to bow down or give respect to anyone he doesn't feel have earned it.
Alliance: Rothwood is neutral in the war, not only due to the fact that he caters to both sides, but because both sides know that it would be dangerous to try to force him to one side or the other. He has enough obscure objects that Voldemort and Dumbledore both would have a hard time breaking through, and they would not be able to do so unscathed. Both sides are willing to leave him alone because he is both fair and silent. Rothwood agrees more with Harry's side, but keeps his opinions to himself and doesn't let them affect his buisness.
Pets: Rothwood has no talent with animals, and thus has no flesh and blood pets, but he does have a pair of Living Chinese Lion Guard Statues and a wooden dragon made of Twisted Bloodwood from the Crater of Life. All three are semi-sentient, and he acts as if they were his pets.
Something random about your character: Rothwood, like Olivander, seems to have an uncanny knack for knowing exactly what is going on, and what he needs to do about it. Almost like a seer, however, he doesn't have any sort of odd aura around him.
Sample Roleplay: Rothwood stormed into his store, muttering under his breath in rapid fire Arabic, mentioning phrases like"cheating apothecary's" and "bloody war". As Rothwood threw the door open, the pair of stone lions just inside on either side of the aisle jumped to life, growling. However, as Rothwood waved his hands in an odd jerking circle, the two lions settled and gave off odd sounding growling yips. Rothwood patted the two lions on their heads, and then strode off through the mess that was his shop. Behind him, the stone guardians once again became still and watchful. Rothwood pulled out a bag from his coat and withdrew from it a small bottle filled with a yellow-tinged clear substance. He held up the bottle to one of the lamps that stood by the counter. No flecks that he could see. The old shopkeeer nodded and proceeded around the counter and into the back room of the shop. Suprisingly, given the cluttered mess that was the front, the backroom was very clean. A table stood along the wall to Rothwood's left, and the old man approached the table. Laying in the center of the table was a plate that was covered in what appeared to be lumps of crystal. Rothwood scowled a the lumps, they had just cost him 5 Galleons to buy a simple magical acid to remove them. He uncorked the bottle and gentlly tilted it until a drop slipped from the mouth of the vial and splattered onto one of the larger lumps of rock. The acid seemed to soak into the crystals, until with a slurping, grinding noise, the crystal turned into a lump of what looked like jell-o. With a wave of his wand and a murmured spell, Rothwood Vanished the blob. For ten minutes, Rothwood painstakingly liquified and then Vanished the crystals. He was just dropping the last drop when a bell rang out from his shop. The vial slipped, and a large amount of acid fell onto the plate. Rothwood hastily Vanished the acid before it could soak into the plate, and, setting aside the now-stoppered vial, hurried to the front. Lucius Malfoy was not a patient man. He expected to have things rushed when he expected them rushed. So naturally, he was peeved at having to wait for the shopkeeper to come out. However, he didn't let it show on his face and locked the annoyance in the back of his mind. Yaxley could not set foot in the shop due to the fact that he had yelled at the shopkeeper. Rothwood moved out of the backroom and quickly caught sight of Lucius. "Ah yes, Mr. Malfoy. What can I do for you today?" Lucius sneered. "I have several 'Dark' Objects that I have found no use for and thus I desire to sell them. Here is the list." Rothwood scanned the list several times, before handing it back nodding. "I will take the pair of knives, the Wailing Chalice, and the statue of the Fallen Angel." Lucius blinked. "I was not offering a choice. They are on sale as a batch..." Rothwood sighed. "I will pay you twice what each of the pieces i have named is worth." Lucius growled. "Listen here. I am not bargining with you, I..." "Then please leave." Lucius looked startled before his eyes narrowed. His hand twitched towards his cane before he pulled himself back and nodded. "Very well. I trust you can send someone to pick them up." Rothwood nodded. He picked up a glass sphere that was laying on a pile of string on the counter and squeezed it. Out of the shadows around them, several small winged lizard like things crawled. Lucius visibly started, before regaining his composure and nodding. Rothwood pulled out a sack of coins and counted them out before handing the correct amount in the bag to Lucius. Lucius then turned on his heels and left. Rothwood squeezed the sphere again and the creatures left to go pick up the items. The gremlins, as Rothwood called them, needed permission to enter a dwelling, and even then could only stay for an hour before they needed more permission. He could easily have Malfoy Manor stripped, but that would harm his reputation. Anyway, he had just dealt a more grevious blow to Malfoy than stealing his things. If Lucius had shown the knives to Voldemort, Voldemort would have demanded to have them. After all, who could better weild Slytherin's daggers than his heir. Rothwood chuckled again. Oh yes, it was fun making the customer think that they got the better end of the deal.
